Ciro Scotto

is an Associate professor of theory at the Eastman School of Music. He earned his BA and MA from the University of California, Davis, and he earned his DMA from the University of Washington. Additional study at the Schwietzer Training Institute and the Mannes Institute for Advanced Study in Music Theory (2003). He studied with John Rahn, Richard Swift, James Beale, Jonathan Bernard, Peter Erös, Gunther Schuller, and Milton Babbitt. Articles published in Contemporary Composers, Perspectives of New Music, and Journal of Music Theory. He has delivered papers at SMT, IMS, and the American Mathematical Society conferences. He is a member, Society for Music Theory, College Music Society, Composer's Forum Inc., American Music Center Inc., Society of Composers Inc. His conducting activities include the University of Texas New Music Ensemble, University of California-Santa Barbara New Music Festival, University of Washington Contemporary Group. His compositions have been performed by the New Music Ensemble, Fear No Music, Rainier Chamber Winds, Puget Sound Flute Quartet, and the Robert Bloch String Quartet. He was recently Composer in Residence at Allegheny College. Teaching positions include Eastman (1997-), University of Texas-Austin (1995-97), University of California-Santa Barbara (1991-92), Cornish College of the Arts (1990-91), University of California-Davis (summer 1986).
