Commissions

Ensemble Nordlys from Denmark has commissioned me to write a new work for piano, violin, cello, and clarinet. The work will be completed in 2007.

Confessions for chamber ensemble, commissioned by Fear No Music, a Seattle/Portland based new music ensemble (1995).

Three More Words for Guitar, for guitar trio, commissioned by Steven Novacek, University of Washington, Seattle (1995).

Episodes, for Guitar, commissioned by Todd Seelye. Jonathan Paget premiered two movements at the Eastman Theory Concert, 1997.

Tetralogy, co-commissioned by the East Shore Chamber Players (1992), conducted by William W. Wiedreich, University of North Carolina, Greenville, and the Rainier Winds, Seattle, conducted by Kathleen Macferron.

Litost, commissioned by the Puget Sound Flute Quartet. The work was premiered on the Washington Composers Forum Concert during the second annual Seattle Spring Festival of Contemporary Music, April 15, 1989

Three Words for Guitar, commissioned by David Gorgas. The work was premiered on a solo recital presented by Mr. Gorgas at the University Lutheran Church, November, 3, 1989. The work received its Canadian premier on March 31, 1990 in Vancouver, B.C.

1995-96

Three Words for three Guitars*. Premiered by the New Music Ensemble at the University of Texas, Austin on April 23, 1996.

Movement: I—Drive, II—Reverie

1994-95

Confessions* for flute, clarinet, violin, violoncello, and percussion. Fear No Music premiered the work on February 23, 1996 at their Portland concert. Subsequent performances: February 25, 1996 at the Seattle Art Museum; March 2, 1996 at the University of Oregon; and March 8, 1996 at Pacific Lutheran University.

Movement: I—Alone, II—Rage

1992-93

Tetralogy* for mixed ensemble (flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, french horn, trombone, violoncello, double bass, piano, and percussion). Ms. Macferron premiered the work on November 5, 1995 in Seattle with the Rainier Chamber Winds. Mr. Wiedreich will perform Tetralogy during the 1995-96 season.

Introspectionfor solo violoncello. Premiered at the Eastman Theory Concert, 1999 by Evan Jones.

1989

Three Words for solo guitar. Premiered by David Gorgas at the University Lutheran Church on November 3, 1989. He performed the work again on December 5, 1989 at the University of Washington. Three Words has also been performed in Canada by the Vancouver Pro Musica (March 31st 1990). Paul Rosandich performed the work at the 1992 UC Santa Barbara New Music Festival.

Litost for flute quartet (piccolo, c flute, alto flute, and bass flute) The Puget Sound Flute Quartet premiered Litost at the Second Annual Seattle Spring Festival of Contemporary Music (April 15th 1989). A repeat performance followed at the University of Washington. The work was also selected to appear on the Greater Portland Flute Society's Northwest Composers Concert in 1994.

1988

Passacaglia for solo viola (this composition is part of a larger work Variations titled Matrix . Matrix consists of five compositions that can be played separately or in various combinations.) The work was premiered by Jonathan Graber on May 31, 1990 at the University of Washington.

Exchanges for solo violin (this composition is part of a larger work titled Matrix). Performed at the 1991 Sandpoint Music Festival.

1987

Six Pieces for Piano, Premiered by Anne Marie Scotto Pieces on December 18, 1988 at the University of Washington.

Movement: I—, II—, III—, IV—

1986

Centers for chamber orchestra. Centers was read by the University of Washington Symphony with the composer conducting.

1985

Trilogy for solo piano. Trilogy was premiered by Anne Marie Scotto on a concert at UC Davis called New Music by Davis Composers (June 7, 1986).

A Book of Five Rings for guitar and flute. The work was premiered by David Gorgas and Dayton Allemanne at the Third Annual Seattle Spring Festival of Contemporary Music, April 16, 1990.

1984

String Quartet The work was premiered by the Robert Bloch String Quartet I Quartet at UC Davis on a concert presented by the Graduate Fellowship Committee. (May 19, 1985)1984 Piano Solo piano and small ensemble. The work was Concerto premiered by Anne Marie Scotto with the composer conducting (May 19, 1985).

1983

Songs of the Geishafor soprano solo and chamber ensemble. Premiered by Christina Moore on May 8, 1983 at UC Davis. The work was selected to represent UC Davis at a festival of UC composers held at UC San Diego where it was performed by Carole Platamura and the UCSD Contemporary Players
