Interdepartmental Collaboration

The Eastman Music Theory Department recognizes the value in interdisciplinary study. Faculty in the Theory Department have collaborative interests with members of other departments in the University of Rochester, and we welcome students who wish to pursue interdisciplinary research.

In the area of music cognition, Professors Marvin and Temperley along with students work closely with the Brain and Cognitive Sciences Department. Together with BCS, the Theory Department has an active profile in music cognition; for more information, click here.

In the areas where music and science cross paths, such as acoustics and music representation and information studies, faculty and students work with the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. Professors Headlam (ESM) and Bocko (ECE) have formed the Music Research Lab as an umbrella organization for research into music and technology by faculty and students in both departments.
